in like a lion...you can say that again!

I just took my most recent pictures off my camera, and looking at them...last wee and this week are TOTALLY different. Last week I was planting my strawberries, in 1 LAYER of clothing...eating my breakfast outside on the picnic bench, and feeling very....springy.

The last 2 days or so, it has just been so SO cold, its like being thrown into the depths of winter all over again, just when I was getting used to the idea of being warmed naturally again.

The wind outside is so aggressive, I feel very sorry for any little animals that don't have any shelter for themselves :(

Squeek eating spicy beans
Planting the strawberries
Suzie, finding a little warm nook for herself
Pontoon, me and mum went for a drive out there, the other day when it was nice
Cafe Rua in Castlebar...liked the bits of red they had dotted around the place :) And nice grub too!
Life drawing set up, with my new supplies, and some oldies too.
My favorite bit of Bee's birthday card
Used a stencil from when I was little for her envelope
Reilly, looking cute as anything tonight in the kitchen :)

Without darkness, there would be no light.

I saw the tiniest sliver of moon last night, through the thinnish blanket of clouds, when I was putting the dogs in last night. There is a nice sort of energy at the moment...we all seem to be going a bit backwards with this cooling of weather, and we could be tricked into thinking that there is, in fact, only one season, on this cocooned little island of ours, but let me reassure you:
Spring is here (even if it doesn't feel like it)
And how do I know this with such a conviction?
Because one of our daffodils opened up yesterday!
So in her honour, I wore my yellow scarf today :)

Life drawing is definately starting to grow on me, and I was looking forward to today's class.
Its nice getting there first, you get to choose where you want to sit, and set up your space properly.
I got a good few drawings that I was happy with today, which is more then I can say I ever got out of life drawing classes in college. I don't think...no...I think there is two sheets that I did in college, that I loved. And I still have them...pretty sure the rest went in the bin.

Anyways...there's a lot going on, but its all good, and that makes me happy.
I really LOVE having something concrete to do. A list of things that need doing, and need doing down.
Specific tasks, like, tracing out images I like from a stack of national geographics, because I want to use them in my work...cropping and resizing images, collecting research for quilt making and felt making, and doing research for a collaborative project Im working on with my dear, stateside, friend.

So everything is looking up, Up, UP!

James Vincent McMorrow - This Old Dark Machine

I have great difficulty following up on music that I hear, that I like. I've been let down in the past...getting really excited about something that Ive heard on an episode, or a clip used in an add, then when I go to the trouble of searching out the artist, and seeing what their other songs are like, Im often left wanting...
I heard this on the radio in the car the other day and pulled over to type his name in as a contact...thats my version of a notebook, my phonebook on my phone...pretty sad really, that the hundreds of entries aren't people at all, and just important things to remember...
But, yes, anyway...I love this song, and cant wait to get the chance to listen to more of his stuff :)

I came upon twin fawns in the display case of a mom and pop toy and science store in Kansas City, Missouri. It took me two years to win the trust of the shop owner and save the money to buy them. A taxidermist spotted a dead deer by the side of the road. He stopped to properly dispose of the body and realized she was pregnant. He opened her and found near full-term twin fawns, he removed and preserved them.
Deer rarely have twins and the taxidermist retained the uterine gesture of their bodies. I built them a vitrine with a light blue base. Their prematurity exaggerates the delicacy of an incredibly sweet thing. The points of their hooves, the length of their lashes, the spots of their hides, nose to small nose in an ur-cartoonish realism … Viewers’ eyes trick them into believing the fawns are breathing. The tragedy of beauty is its transience.

The twins live forever in their own demise. They are sleeping beauties. They have been muses since I first saw them … We dress death in lilies and bronze the names of our dead sons on walls. We erect altars of toys and hold candlelight vigils to express hope. My twin fawns sleep endlessly on their baby blue block in my studio. The twins never opened their eyes yet their wondrous fatality evokes an acceptable alternative to death.

I just think

It could have been him

It could be him next time

And what would I do?

And I sit and pray and wish and hope that that next time doesn't happen

And I morn the loss of my brother that could have happened, so easily

And I hope that that day never comes

But these losses along the way, such a waste

Such a shock to the system

And he rings me, and tells me he loves me

And I know that he is hurting.

And I know that he is thinking the same.

I worry about him so much anyway, when things like this happens, I worry even more.

It is so sad
Everything pauses.
Nothing happens.
Everything happens at once.
It feels like being in the eye of a storm, of people, phone calls.
It brings people together, it tears people apart.

I wish it would stop happening.
Just when everything is going fine...
